This collection consists of photocopies and original game rules for board, card, educational, word games and more collected by members of the Association for Games & Puzzles International. The materials are dated from 1841 to 2006.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by publisher or manufacturer and has been inventoried to item level for additional discoverability. Some of the materials in the collection have been digitized by the AGPI and can be found on their website, www.gamesandpuzzles.org.

The physical materials are housed in ten boxes.

Though the donor has not transferred intellectual property rights (including but not limited to any copy right, trademark, and associated rights therein) to The Strong, they have given permission for The Strong to make copies in all media for museum, educational, and research purposes. Some of the game rules in this collection may be in the public domain.

Overview

This collection consists of game rules [photocopies and originals] collected by members of the Association for Games and Puzzles International. The materials are dated from 1841 to 2006. The rules included are for board games, card games, word games, educational games, and many more.

Administrative History

The Association for Games & Puzzles International (AGPI) was founded by Bruce Whitehill in 1985. AGPI is the world's most foremost organization dedicated to the collection and preservation of games and puzzles. The AGPI is a nonprofit assocation that conducts research and explores the history of games and puzzles from ancient times to the present. They disseminate information about games and puzzles to the broadest audience possible including the general public, media, libraries, museums, scholars, and others.

Originally known as the American Game Collectors Association (AGCA), the organization's name was changed in 1999 to the Association of Game & Puzzle Collectors to reflect the broadend scope of its mission and international nature. In 2017, members voted to change the organization name to the Association for Games & Puzzles International (AGPI).
