The Greg and Pinch Lee papers consist of materials that document Greg and Pinch Lee's time with the television show, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and their personal lives. The materials date from 1978 to 2003, with the bulk of the materials dated from 1991 to 1996. The materials are comprised of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, audiovisual materials, fan artwork, scripts, and more.

The majority of the papers relate to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and include documents used in production of the television show, the live shows and tours, and the comic series in National Geographic World. The collection also includes professional and candid photographs of the set, cast, crew, events, and more.

In addition to documenting the professional lives of Greg and Pinch Lee, the papers also document their personal lives and include photographs, letters to and from family and friends, and newspaper clippings.The funeral programs, tributes, and other materials related to Lynne Thigpen ("The Chief") can be found in Series I: Biographical. The Greg and Pinch Lee papers have been arranged into six series, with two of the series further broken down into subseries. The physical materials are housed in five archival document boxes, one audiovisual box, and one oversized flat box.

The folder entitled "Directory - Staff, 1992" has been restricted due to personal information. It has been denoted as such in this finding aid and is separated from the unrestricted files. The remainder of the collection is open for research use by staff of The Strong and users of its library and archive.

At this time, audiovisual files are limited to on-site researchers. It is possible that certain formats may be inaccessible.

Though the donor has not transferred intellectual property rights (including, but not limited to any copyright, trademark, and associated rights therein) to The Strong, they have given permission for The Strong to make copies in all media for museum, educational, and research purposes.

The collection consists of materials collected by Greg and Georgette "Pinch" Lee, while working on the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? game show produced by PBS. The materials date from 1978 to 2003, with the bulk of the materials between 1991 to 1996. The papers are comprised of newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, fan generated content, scripts, audiovisual materials, and more.

Biographical Note

Georgette "Pinch" Lee, born in Utica, New York, was the Editorial Director and "Word Queen" of theWhere in the World is Carmen Sandiego? television game show from 1991 to 1995. Lee graduated from Syracuse University in 1986 with a Masters degree in Educational Television. She has been a production assistant on Saturday Night Live, done freelance work for MTV and Nickelodeon, and created content for television, film, and publishing. Lee and her husband, Greg, are co-scriptwriters for theGoofus and Gallant podcast. They met on the set of the Emmy and Peabody award-winning Public Broadcasting Station children's television show,Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and were married in September 1992.

Greg A. Lee, raised in Nebraska, was the host ofTotal Panic! andWhere in the World is Carmen Sandiego?. Lee graduated from Oklahoma Christian College in 1986 with a degree in liberal arts. He is an actor and stand-up comedian. Lee is also a writer and voice actor, most notably as Principal White in Disney's cartoon television seriesDoug (1996-1999).

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Greg and Pinch Lee papers were donated to The Strong in December 2023 as a gift of Greg A. Lee and Pinch Lee. The papers were accessioned by The Strong under Object ID 123.4804 and were received in four boxes.
