Allens Creek Road - “Wildflowers of the Strong Estate,” c. 1980
Scope and Content Note
This subseries contains documentation, photographs, notes, clippings, blueprints, and other papers on the former Strong mansion on Allens Creek Road in Pittsford, New York, where Margaret Strong lived from 1937 until her death in 1969. The mansion, built for Alvah Strong in the 1920s, was originally called Twin Beeches and later the name was changed to Tuckaway Farm by the Strongs in 1937. During the 1960s, Margaret Strong planned additions to the mansion for future museum purposes, and following her death, the staff of the Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum of Fascination (later shortened) worked in the building to catalog artifacts before the museum’s downtown Rochester location opened in 1982. Blueprints are contained in rolled storage boxes; blueprint labels are transcribed from original storage labels and are indicated in quotation marks. (See also registration albums in Series I, Subseries D, and photographs in Series I, Subseries G.)
