“Cube Puzzle - ‘Big Jack’ - Mattel”- reference and correspondence, 1971

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 10

Scope and Contents Note

From the Series:

This series contains papers from Moleculon Research Corp. (abbreviated throughout as “MRC”) relating to the creation of Larry D. Nichols’ (abbreviated throughout as “LDN”) cube puzzle while employed at Moleculon. These materials include patent forms, notes, sketches, puzzle descriptions, product submissions to toy companies, correspondence, and more. Arthur S. Obermayer (abbreviated throughout as “ASO”) kept these papers and later used them as reference/discovery during the 1982 patent infringement suit. (In this series, “RDP” is an abbreviation frequently used in place of “rotating disk puzzle”—another puzzle creation by Nichols. According to Obermayer, “The original patent application for Nichols’ Cube was crafted to be broad enough to include Nichols' rotating disk puzzle.”)

All folder titles in quotation marks are retained from the original folder titles labeled by Obermayer. Descriptions of the material type in each folder are also noted.
